Metro police clamp down on crime in the capital city

Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) continues to clamp down on crime in the capital city when four men were arrested for various crimes this week.

The TMPD officers went to search the premises of a Somalian shop in Soshanguve block TT and recovered an illegal firearm in one spaza shop.

According to the TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, the TMPD received a tip off on Thursday about an illegal firearm in Soshanguve Block TT at a Somalian shop.

“The officers arrested a Somalian man who was in possession of an illegal firearm,” Mahamba said.

In the same area at another spaza shop,  the TMPD officers apprehended a man who was found in possession of a stolen firearm.

Mahamba said the firearm was stolen from a South African Police Service official.

“At this stage the firearm is not linked to any incident or scene. Tests will be conducted by SAPS, and the results will be communicated at a later stage,” Mahamba said.

On Tuesday morning, the TMPD responded to a lookout call of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stolen in Hatfield on Monday at 11pm.

“The police spotted it near the Fountains Circle at 1am. They managed to stop the vehicle and a 25-year-old man, who was driving the car, was arrested,” Mahamba said.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Garsfontein for dealing and possession of a drug called “white skank” and mushrooms valued at R9 000.

All suspects will appear in court soon, Mahamba said.
