Metro officers arrest fellow cops for bribery, assault

Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers arrested one of their own for bribery and corruption after he solicited a bribe of R300.
Another officer was arrested for assault in the early hours of yesterday morning, after assaulting fellow TMPD members, as well as members of the police.
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said that in a separate incident an off-duty TMPD officer was shot and injured in a domestic incident in Centurion on Saturday.
“The officer is in a stable condition in hospital,” Mahamba said.
He said they had also arrested 12 more suspects for various crimes in and around the capital over the weekend.
“One suspect was arrested in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, when officers spotted a hijacked vehicle. The suspect and an accomplice dumped the vehicle and tried to get away on foot. The officer gave chase and managed to apprehend one. He was found with an unlicensed firearm,” Mahamba said.
Two other suspects were arrested in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, during a stop and search operation for possession of two illegal firearms. It was later discovered that they have an existing case of attempted hijacking.
Officers also arrested two suspects in Winterveld for possession of an illegal firearm and another for dealing and possession of dagga.
In Pretoria West, one suspect was arrested for dealing and possession of nyaope and cocaine rock.
“Four more suspects were arrested for trespassing and damage to property in the Pretoria CBD.
