Mbalula is ‘burning’, says Malema on Wits SRC win

The Economic Freedom Fighters Students’ Command (EFFSC) on Thursday won the Students Representatives Council (SRC) election at the University of Witwatersrand, taking 12 out of 15 seats.

This is the first time that the EFFSC claimed victory in SRC elections at the university, taking over from ANC-affiliated Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA).

The SRC polls were conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday. The results were announced late on Thursday.

Following the announcement, EFF leaders Julius Malema, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Floyd Shivambu shared the news on social media, congratulating the students on their massive victory.

“The EFFSC has won Wits SRC Elections. 12 seats out of 15. Thank you to all Wits Students for affirming the mission of economic freedom,” said Ndlozi, while Shivambu said: “Congratulations to Wits EFF Students’ Command for winning 12 out of 15 Seats in the SRC. We are proud and confident!!”

The EFF president, however, took it a step further, and involved his friend and former colleague, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, in their celebrations.

According to Malema, Mbalula said Wits students always voted correctly, perhaps because the ANC-aligned groups always won the majority seats. Though the EFF leader did not seem to agree with the minister then, he agreed with him now.

“Fikile Mbalula you said Wits University students always vote correctly, I should think that this time around you are correct. Shapa Wits EFF,” he said.

Mbalula responded to the Wits SRC victory, and questioned why no one talked about the PYA’s victory in Nelson Mandela University.

“That is newsworthy too,” he added.

In fact, it was the norm for the EFF to win by-elections, the minister said, further swallowing his pride and congratulating the EFF leader.

He claimed the ANC would take the campus back again.

His followers commented, and said the country would follow suit in 2019 and vote “correctly”.

“We are not fools Mbaks we are well aware of what you and your cronies have done,” they added.
