After reports in September last year that the KwaZulu-Natal seaside town of Margate was plagued with many issues, the South Coast Herald now reports that the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has plans to revamp the Margate beachfront.
Among the issues in Margate as cited in the report last year were the closure of the Olympic pool and that youngsters were flocking to the beach for booze binges, smashing bottles and wrecking facilities. These were brought to the attention of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
The municipal manager, Max Mbili, recently told the business community at an “action meeting” the Olympic pool repair would begin this month, and that the eyesore of the old amusement park site would be cleared.
Ray Basson of the Master Builders’ Association told the meeting that the promenade, which had been badly damaged and vandalised, would also be repaired.
It is believed this would be welcome news for the town’s tourism industry and business communities.
