Man critically injured after ‘freak accident’

A 24-year-old man was critically injured on Thursday night, in a freak accident at a company on the R60 outside of Worcester in the Western Cape, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that paramedics and the Metro Rescue arrived on the scene and where lead to where the man was.

“Upon assessment, paramedics found that the man’s leg had become trapped inside a piece of machinery. The man was also found to be in a critical condition. Paramedics and Metro Rescue worked for sometime to free the man from the machine,” Meiring said.

“Once freed, paramedics treated the man for his serious leg injury, and provided him with advanced life support interventions.”

The man was transported to hospital for urgent care. The cause of the accident and more details were not immediately available.
