Malema’s ‘AmaGrootman’ post triggers questions about Maine’s ‘bra size’

ANC Youth League president Collen Maine has often found himself on the receiving end of body-shaming comments from social media users.

He recently shared a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption “Youth Month loading”, only to receive numerous comments about his weight.

One of his followers told him to go to gym, as he apparently did not look like he was a youth any more. (Curiously, Maine is nearly 37 years old, but still referred to as a “youth”).

Another user suggested a long-distance march for the youth league, which would also help in his weight loss.

“President, Maybe we need to organize a ANCYL 17km Walk For Youth of 2017. Leaders in front and 1,7km a day for 17 days. #HealthFirst,” they said.

EFF leader Julius Malema saw Maine’s picture and shared it with his followers with the caption “AmaGrootman”, a hit song by DJ Oskido.

Malema tagged the DJ in the headline, perhaps trying to make the post look like he was talking about the song, though his followers got the shade and shared comments of their own.

Malema, quite famously, shed a lot of kilos himself after being expelled from the ANC and starting the EFF. He once told Gareth Cliff that the inspiration was partly due to once being told by Nelson Mandela that “you can’t lead the youth while looking like this [ie, overweight]”.

What cup size is he? asked one of Malema’s followers, implying that Maine wore a bra.

These were some of the reactions on Twitter:

“Is it the Guptas that have had this guy so badly disfigured? If he is married then his wife is enduring the hardest of abuse ever.”

“That’s the results of eating too much curry.”

“But @Julius_S_Malema should give this guy the same thing he’s taking…this is a health hazard. Help him ao.”

“So now that you’ve shed kilos wena sewuba spicy. Bewungaka nawe mos.”

“CIC you once looked like him. Dead at #Amagrootman.”

“He needs to go on the JULIAS dieet…seems the @ANCYLhq is a very unhealthy organisation.”
