Mike Maile’s gun goes ‘bam!’ with wife in the room

MEC Lebogang Maile's brother has been advised to get shooting lessons to avoid 'another Reeva incident'.

Gauteng economic development MEC Lebogang Maile’s brother, Mike, took to social media to describe what could have been the most unfortunate event of his life this week. In his post, he says he was at his house on Monday night when security told him there were two people outside the yard.

Without hesitation, he took out his gun and went outside to look for the intruders. After looking everywhere and not finding anyone, he went back into the house, got to his bedroom and disarmed the gun – at least that’s what he thought.

“I get into my bedroom, disarm the gun, pull it a few times to make sure it is disarmed, pull the trigger and bam!”

The gun went off, with his wife in the bedroom. Luckily no one was injured.

Mike Maile is known for being very outspoken and open on Facebook.

His story left followers suggesting that he get shooting lessons to avoid “another Reeva incident”. However, he said he cocked the gun several times to make sure the barrel was empty.

“I think this thing is just too old and needs to go. There was no negligence on my part, whatsoever. Perhaps l should have counted bullets in the magazine before l let go of the trigger,” he said.

As the advice from gun users through the centuries has been: no gun is ever completely safe.

One of his followers came up with his own version of what he thought might have happened in that house, further asking what Maile was hiding, however.

Is this your back-up evidence if local armed response and police come sniffing? Because we know how witnesses in Oscar’s [Pistorius] case failed to hand him over and law ended up using his texts for further clarity. I don’t buy its pure statement. What are you hiding uncle?”
