Former public protector Thuli Madonsela did not take lightly to the criticism that it’s “only the whites” who are wishing her “the best”.
According to Twitter user Thabiso @McotamaThabiso, the former public protector is only celebrated by white people, while black people on the other hand, have apparently been left only with many questions about her.
“Really sir?” asked Madonsela, suggesting that he might be “hanging” with a different kind of black crowd, because in her book, she has been celebrated in many different places.
Thabiso said: “only the whites wishing you the best, black SA left with lot of questions with your office”.
Madonsela responded: “Really sir? Which black people do you hang out with. Definitely not those on streets, garages, malls, townships, villages and social media.”
Thabiso was condemned by some, with most simply labelling the user a troll.
“Speak for yourself, I don’t recognise you as my spokesperson as a black SAn,” Phumzile Maldaka responded to Thabiso in defence of the former public protector. However, Thabiso retaliated, saying: “lol nothing Thuli did for public than covering the white monopoly capital whom thought are owning blacks”.
Meanwhile, this week, ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe also criticised Madonsela for not apparently not showing any urgency in releasing a report implicating Absa in allegations that it benefited from billions through apartheid-era loans.
Mantashe said this proved the perception that she had prioritised cases against the ANC over others.
“I listened to the past public protector [who was] at pains to explain how she wrote that report and so forth.
“The report was written and never published, that is the issue. This report was written [and] kept under the lid, but the State of Capture report was written in a rush and released,” he said.
He also said the ruling party now wanted the Absa lifeboat report to be made public.
“Let’s see it. Let’s allow it to be in public and debate,” he said.
