Mabuza replacement candidates cry ‘foul play’ at MP running for chair

The race for an ANC top job is heating up as three of five candidates who want to replace Deputy President David Mabuza as chairman of Mpumalanga ANC cry foul.

The three candidates have called for the provincial executive committee (PEC) to be disbanded.

Lobby groups representing former ANC deputy chairman David Dube, Charles Makola and Peter Nyoni told the media in Mbombela on Tuesday that the executive committee was unconstitutional, conflicted and unfair.

They accused acting chairperson Mandla Ndlovu of being a player and a referee who was tasked by Mabuza to continue his legacy.

The Mpumalanga ANC is expected to hold a provincial general council early next month, where it is expected to appoint a deputy chairperson and an additional PEC member replacing Mabuza.

Mabuza’s appointment as the deputy president saw Premier Refilwe Mtsweni as his replacement with new members to the ANC national executive committee. Mtsweni’s deputy, Violet Siwela, with Candith-Mashego-Dlamini were the addition.
