The young farmer won an overall Best Agricultural Entrepreneur Award in Greater Letaba Municipal area at Kgapane Community Hall, Letaba Herald reports.
Tshwarelo Masutha of Masuhla Farming in Mamaila Kolobe Tona also walked away with Best Young Agricultural Entrepreneur Award at the awards ceremony held under the theme: Recognizing Excellent Contribution by Greater Letaba Farmers In Ensuring Food Security Under the Pressure of Global Warming.

Masutha farms vegetables on a 10 hectares land. He employers 15 young workers. He said the prize money would be used to buy farming equipment and so that he can increase production.
Kgaugelo Gloria Maake of Mollong Village emerged as the Best Female Agricultural Entrepreneur, while Albert Malahlele of Roerfontein took home the Best Male Agricultural Entrepreneur Award.
Madumeleng based Leakgale Primary School got the judges nod as the Best Agricultural School, while Mabodyane Cooperative won the farmers living with disabilities category.
Speaking during the award ceremony, the Mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality, Peter Matlou said the municipality was committed to support farmers particularly the emerging ones as agricultural sector in one of the biggest employers in the area.
Matlou said the municipality in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development awards the efforts and contribution of women, youth and people living with disability in matters of food security through backyard and large-scale production as well as value-chain activities.
“Agriculture as the backbone of our economy should be supported by financial institutions to can create jobs,” he said.
The winners, runners-up and the third placed received certificates and prize money ranging from R 6 050 to R10 890.
The awards organised by the Greater Letaba Municipality in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development are aimed at encouraging and increasing the participation of women, youth and people living with disability in agricultural activities.
