A minibus van transporting prisoners in Middelburg to court caught fire on Monday, reports Middelburg Observer.
According to information received, the bus caught fire due to a suspected technical fault.
Two other members of Correctional Services happened to pass the burning minibus and stopped to render assistance and secure the prisoners.
A third Correctional Services van, transporting people from the Barberton Prison to Groblersdal, was on the scene to pick up the prisoners who were travelling in the bus that caught fire.
A farmer from the area assisted in extinguishing the fire.
No injuries were reported.
