Negotiations between Unisa and the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) came to a deadlock on Monday evening, with the workers’ strike now expected to spread to other universities, Centurion Rekord reports.
Applications and registration processes have come to a halt as Unisa workers continue to strike.

University staff went on strike last week Wednesday, demanding a 12 percent salary increase.
Nehawu spokesperson Khaya Xaba said intervention by the commission of conciliation, mediation and arbitration failed on Monday night.
“Negotiations have collapsed. The university is offering a four percent increase while the workers demand 12 percent from which they will not back down,” said Xaba.
“The strike will continue indefinitely if the employer is not willing to budge to our demands.”
Xaba said workers at the University of Pretoria will also join the strike later this week.
They are demanding a 9.5 percent salary increase, while the university is only offering six percent.
The union said the Tshwane University of Technology will not be affected by the workers’ strike.
“We have resolved issues with management at TUT and there’s no impending strike there.”
