Water crisis: Tankers deployed to affected areas in Tshwane

Tshwane is currently taking steps to deploy water tankers to areas that have been affected by the Rand Water crisis at the Mapleton pump station.

Details on where these tankers will be available will be shared in due course with the ward councillors in the affected areas.

Mapleton repairs: Tshwane residents left high and dry

While electricity has been restored at the Mapleton pump station following a cable theft incident which led to a power outage, it will reportedly take a few more days for the system to stabilise.

The full restoration of water at Mapleton will take a couple of days,” said the mayor’s spokesperson Sipho Stuurman.

The station, which supplies the eastern parts of Tshwane, was also affected due to flooding of the Zuikerbosch water treatment plant engine room last week.

City of Tshwane, Rand Water to meet over water outages

Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink met with the councillors whose areas have been affected by the Rand Water maintenance issues. The situation has been compounded by cable theft on one of the lines that power the Rand Water pump station.

“We are in continuous engagement with Rand Water to get credible information about when the problem will be resolved.

“We will also be meeting with the management of Rand Water this week to try and understand the structural issues that led to us experiencing situations like this,” Brink continued.

Vulcan substation emergency maintenance

The City of Tshwane has also been alerted by Eskom that the power utility will conduct emergency maintenance of the Vulcan Substation in Region 7 on Tuesday 18 April. Electricity supply will be interrupted from 08:00 to 16:00
