Throats slit in KZN mosque before setting fire to building

Three men are fighting for their lives after the mosque that they were attending was attacked by three armed men a short while ago, Phoenix Sun reports.

Security company Reaction Unit South Africa was called out to the scene of the crime at about 2.30pm after receiving multiple calls regarding a ‘terrorist attack’ at the Imam Hussain Mosque in Ottawa, Verulam.

The eThekweni Fire Department is currently at the scene.

When they arrived at the scene, reaction officers found that two victims’ throats were slit and they were bleeding profusely.

Paramedics were immediately called to the scene to treat the critically injured men. A report issued by RUSA stated: “Reaction officers then noticed smoke emanating from the mosque and attempted to extinguish the flames. A third victim was found inside the building, bleeding from a wound to his throat. A knife was found beside the victim.”

The knife which was found at the scene.

According to witnesses, three men armed with knives and guns attacked the mosque and then set fire to the building.

“The suspects, who were wearing half balaclavas, fled in a white Hyundai light motor vehicle with no registration plates. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa are searching the area. The eThekweni Fire Department is currently at the scene,” the report concluded.
