Jacob Zuma has resigned as the President of South Africa.
Zuma addressed members of the media at late last night, 14 January. He affirmed his commitment to the processes of the African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC), and said that even though he did not agree with his party’s decision to recall him, he will step down as President of the Republic.

Zuma was jovial as he entered the press room to deliver his address. He spoke about the difficulty of serving as the President, the challenges South Africa faces and his commitment to radical economic transformation.
Plans were underway for the vote of no confidence tabled for Thursday, 15 February, but members of parliament will now vote for a new candidate for presidency.
