Sixty-four nabbed in long-weekend Pretoria operations

A total of 64 suspects were arrested in Pretoria during a police operation at the weekend, Pretoria East Rekord reports.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said operations were conducted by police stations in the Tshwane Central policing cluster, including Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Sunnyside, Silverton, Pretoria Moot and Villieria.

“A high number of arrests were made for drug related offences and driving under the influence of alcohol,” Weilbach said.
She said 11 suspects were arrested for allegedly being in the possession of dagga and five for being in the possession of other drugs.
“Nineteen motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in joint roadblocks with the Tshwane metro police and stop and search operations,” she said.
She said 24 people were arrested for alleged shoplifting and theft.
“People were also arrested for being in the possession of dangerous weapons, assaults, being in the possession of suspected stolen goods and reckless and negligent driving,” she said.

All those that were arrested will appear in the Hatfield community and Pretoria magistrate’s courts on Monday.
