Sewer pipe failure causes massive sinkhole in Durban

Once the department completes the pipe repair and backfills, the roads department will undertake final road asphalting.

A large sinkhole in Berea, KwaZulu-Natal has been escalated for attention by ward 33 councillor Mmabatho Tembe.

The road caved away on December 30, and has been closed to traffic since then, reports Berea Mail.

“The municipality investigated the matter when it was reported and found the cause of the road collapse was a sewer pipe failure. The area was closed off and handed over to the eThekwini Water Service for attention,” she said.

Tembe said she had been informed that once the department completed the pipe repair and backfills, the roads department would undertake final road asphalting as necessary.
