“Adding Rea Vaya services to Google Maps is another step for the City of Johannesburg to become a smart city,” said member of the mayoral committee of transport, councillor Nonhlanhla Makhuba.
By adding this system, users will now be able to plan their journeys most efficiently, with the ability to combine transportation types.
Makhuba added: “This will also be a great help for visitors and tourists who are [accustomed] to using the public transport functionality in other commuter cities around the world.”
The City of Johannesburg said in the release: “The project lays the foundation for adding other modes of public transport as well as real-time tracking of public transport on Google Maps. It will also enhance the usability of public transport.”
Users of the city’s older VayaMoja app can still use the app to plan their journeys.
