Police arrest 487 in Pretoria weekend blitz
The anti-crime operations included raids, stop and searches and roadblocks.
The suspects were arrested for various offences including murder, rape, armed robberies, possession of drugs, contempt of court, traffic offences and shoplifting.
Hundreds were arrested in a Tshwane North police cluster crime blitz at the weekend.
Spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said 487 arrests were made from Friday to Sunday in Ga-Rankuwa, Akasia, Soshanguve, Mabopane and Winterveldt.

Nkoadi said the crime-combating operations included raids, stop and searches and roadblocks.
He said the arrests were for attempted murder, rape, armed robbery, possession of drugs, contempt of court, traffic offences, shoplifting, common robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.
He said the operations were part of the police’s intensified fight against crime in the cluster.
“The arrested will appear in various magistrate’s courts soon,” Nkoadi said.
