A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle on the corner of Mooifontein Road and the P91 (R25) on Monday morning, Kempton Express reports.

According to Col Tobias Strauss, station commander at Norkem Park SAPS, the deceased allegedly ran in front of the vehicle.

“The man is unknown and we are investigating the possibility of him being a jumper, as it looks like he was running from security,” said Strauss.

“He was with another man who ran away after the accident.”

A witness also alleged to have seen two men running across the street without paying much attention to traffic.

“Both men were running towards the P91 from Mooifontein Road and the vehicle was driving down the P91 towards Kaalfontein when the accident occurred,” said the witness.

“The driver of the vehicle tried to swerve but it was too late. The other pedestrian didn’t even stop, but ran away.”

Strauss added: “He looks like a person who was caught on CCTV camera trying to break into a house in Birchleigh on Thursday but investigations will have to confirm this.”

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
