No more licence discs for vehicles with ‘N’ number plates

MEC for Transport Makome Makhurupetje says this decision is in line with the discontinuation of the N-licence mark, Bosveld Review reports.

“As of 24 November 2017, the NATIS system will no longer print a licence disc if the vehicle licence number still has an ‘N’ licence mark,” she said.

Makhurupetje added motorists who intend to renew their licence disc and still have the ‘N’ licence mark, will be issued with the ‘L’ mark, and will be expected to buy new number plates.

The ‘L’ licence number system was introduced as a result of the province’s name change from Northern Province to Limpopo, in terms of the constitution, signed by the president on 9 April 2003.

Makhurupetje says the ‘L’ licence  number system was implemented with effect from 1 April 2006 and the old ‘N’ number system has to be phased out within the period of 10 years from date of implementation, but was later extended to November 2017.
