Nino’s in Emalahleni closes after fatal shooting of its owner

Patrons will never again enjoy the good coffee and freshly baked cakes at Nino’s in Highveld Mall, Witbank News reports.

After the fatal shooting of Nino’s Coffee Shop owner, Ms Helen Fanourakis, the popular coffee shop closed its doors.

Fanourakis was shot dead on Sunday, March 31, during a hijacking.

This took place right in front of the entrance to the security complex in Del Judor Street where she lived with her two sons, Nicholas, 17, and Dimitri, 12.

Flowers placed in front of the coffee shop told of how loved Fanourakis was in the community.

Ms Carien Prinsloo said: “We regularly popped around and Helen was always there laughing and interacting with her clients. I guess just like many others, we always ended up visiting Helen over a steaming hot cup of latte. She knew every client and always made sure that everyone was happy and enjoying the homely feel she created in the coffee shop.”

Mr Henri Gouws, Highveld Mall marketing manager said revamping was taking place inside Nino’s and a new coffee shop would soon open its doors.

It has been nearly three months after Fanourakis’ murder and the police still have no leads.
