An argument allegedly broke out between them that led to the man attacking and assaulting her with a golf club, causing injury to the face and body. When the club broke into pieces, the suspect went outside, fetched an iron rod and continued to assault his mother.
He later dragged his mother to his bedroom, where he allegedly kept her until 11pm when he wanted to attack her again. The grandmother tried to calm him down, and later managed to sneak out of the room. Once she was outside the room, she screamed for help, and the suspect began to destroy her cellphone, wardrobe, TV set, sliding door and chairs.
Neighbours called the police, who responded swiftly and apprehended the man. He was detained at Kagiso Police Station, where a case docket of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious injury to property was opened.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
