A Durban North SAPS detective has secured the arrest and conviction of two people involved in the theft of 60 wedding dresses worth R280 000 from an uMhlanga shop last year, North Glen News reports.
Dhanasagren Naidu (50) and his wife, Alicia Nunkumar (35) were arrested last year after stealing stock from the shop and selling it in the Durban CBD.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, said police had recovered half of the dresses during their investigations.
“Detective Lungi Ngcobo who investigated the case managed to recover 30 wedding dresses from Ajmeri Arcade in the City centre. The owner of the shop noticed the stock had gone missing and had opened a case in May last year. Through her investigations, the detective found that an employee of the shop had been stealing the dresses. It then came to light that her husband was also involved.
“Several witnesses who had purchased the dresses positively identified the husband who was selling the dresses at a shop in the arcade. Both of them claimed to be the owners of the shop and said they had closed the shop in uMhlanga and were now dealing out of the city centre. Due to her sterling work the two were sentenced to three years in prison. Unfortunately, the rest of the dresses weren’t recovered as they were sold elsewhere,” he said.
Deokaran commended Ngcobo for her hard work and dedication.
“Both the Station Commander and the station are incredibly proud of her for her quick arrest and recovery of some of the items. We are happy that justice has run its course,” he said.
