A man asleep in his home in Russell Mellick Road in Umtentweni, KwaZulu-Natal, was woken at about 11.50pm by a man standing next to his bed last night, South Coast Herald reports.
When the intruder was asked what he was doing, the intruder started stabbing him with a chisel.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the man was fighting back when a male relative came to his aid.
Together, they fought the intruder.
The resident was stabbed in the head and arms, and the intruder also suffered an injury to the head. He was arrested by police.
Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
