Johannesburg Flying Squad arrests five hijackers in Midrand

Police recently arrested five hijackers in Midrand.


Five hijackers were recently arrested by members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad in Midrand on 2 February, after police noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle, Sandton Chronicle reports.

Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, said the men are aged between 23 and 37.

“They pulled over the vehicle and searched the vehicle and occupants. The vehicle was tested and [police] found that the car had false number plates on it.”

Meyer said during the search, an unlicensed firearm and housebreaking implements were recovered.

“The vehicle was also hijacked in Bramley in January 2018.”

The suspects are currently in detention and appeared in Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 2 February.
