Illegal occupants to be evicted from Olievenhoutbosch RDP houses

Olievenhoutbosch residents are up in arms over their RDP houses that are now illegally occupied by people who were not approved for housing by the Tshwane metro, Rekord Centurion reports.

This has affected the elderly and disabled beneficiaries who are helpless against the illegal occupants.

The metro said the beneficiaries were due to occupy the houses from last week, but that an eviction battle was now under way.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed an eviction order was obtained.

He said people currently occupying the houses were not listed as beneficiaries.

“There is a list of approved beneficiaries who have been awarded housing subsidies who will and should be allocated the houses.”

He said evictions will proceed and the houses will be allocated to their rightful beneficiaries.

Mashigo said Olievenhoutbosch Extension 27 was a housing project of the provincial department of housing and human settlements.

“We are still waiting for their inputs on the number of houses they have built in that area.”

He said the metro was only responsible for the development in Olievenhoutbosch extension 60 where 26 houses have been completed and 249 were at foundation level.

“A further 204 houses are at wall plate level and 98 are at roof level,” said Mashigo.
