Hijacking leaves woman critically injured by ‘acid’ attack

A West Rand woman was seriously injured in an alleged hijacking on Triangle Road, Maraisburg, on the afternoon of July 26, Roodepoort Record reports.

“ER24 paramedics found the woman in a nearby residence. She was assessed by the paramedics and found to be in a serious condition, having sustained chemical burns to her face and chest,” said Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24.

The patient was treated for her injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions before being transported to Helen Joseph Hospital for further care.

“The woman later told paramedics that she was parked outside the residence when she was allegedly hijacked.

“The assailants threw a chemical substance, believed to be acid, into her face. A nearby resident noticed the woman was in distress and offered her assistance,” Meiring said.
