Home affairs has called a notice doing the rounds on social media claiming the green ID is no longer legitimate identification a hoax, Pretoria East Rekord reports.
In November, it was reported that a message purporting to be from the department of home affairs stating that green ID would no longer be legal after 31 March was doing the rounds.
The department, however, recently denied it authored the notice.

“The green bar-coded ID book remains a legal form of identification and will continue to be until the live capture system is rolled out to all home affairs offices to enable South Africans to apply for smart ID cards at their nearest offices.”
Mokgolo said the department called on all citizens to apply for the smart ID at any of the 180 offices already equipped with the live capture system.
