Five women shot in the head in Benoni, four die on scene

Five women were shot in the head, four of whom have died, in an attack believed to be linked to the seven bodies that were found in Benoni on January 14.


Seven bodies of suspected illegal miners were found on January 14, about 500 metres from Daveyton Road in Benoni, Benoni City Times reports.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, spokesperson for the SAPS Ekurhuleni Central Cluster, said at about 8.30pm on Thursday, January 18, family members of one of the deceased miners were performing a ritual near the N12 informal settlement.

“The two suspects approached the females directly, without speaking to anyone, [and] shot five of the females in the head and fled the scene,” said Mngomezulu.

“[The] suspects used pistols to kill the victims.

“Four of the females died on scene while the fifth female was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds.”

Police are searching for the gunmen.
