Fishing trip turns ugly after shark attacks boat in KZN

A father and son got into some difficulty after a shark bite punctured one of their boat’s pontoons.

It was a close call for a father and son who required assistance after their boat was damaged by a shark in Mtunzini at the weekend, reports Zululand Observer.

According to reports, the two had been fishing off-shore where sharks were in the vicinity, and one bit into a pontoon, causing a puncture.

Reports indicate that the width of the bite was 47cm and the bite height was 30cm.

In a statement, NSRI Richards Bay Station Commander, Norman Rautenbach, said his crew responded to the call for assistance on Saturday morning.

“En route to the incident the father, 42, and his son, 19, reported that they have made it safely to shore after eventually getting their motor started and they required no further assistance. A private boat had launched and rendered assistance,” said Rautenbach.
