Donations needed to help aid residents affected by hail storm in Soweto

The City of Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun thanked community members for their donations of blankets which will be given to residents of Soweto who were left stranded due to the recent hail storm, Sandton Chronicle reports.

This was thanks to a charity initiative driven by the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum Sector 4 when blankets were collected on Nelson Mandela Day last year for disaster relief aid.

“It is a wonderful thing to see community members coming together to aid others,” said Sun.

“Instead of most of the negativity happening in the area, such as traffic and so forth, this is a positive thing that residents are helping those who are going through an unforeseen disaster.

“These blankets with many other donations will be helping the residents whose homes were damaged in the recent hail storm.”

Ward 93 councillor, Candice James urged community members to continue donating items which will be used for disaster relief.

“Community members can donate clothes, food, mugs and blankets which can be dropped off at the Sandton Fire Station. For more info please call the Joint Operations Centre on 011 674 0038,” said James.
