Nhlapo is said to have been a Unisa student. Gauteng police spokesman Kay Makhubele said the killing of women was a serious concern to police. “In most cases when two people are in a relationship and the relationship turns sour, this type of incident happens.”

Makhubele said people should report cases as early as possible in order to prevent such incidents. Police have opened a murder case, and a manhunt has since been launched in search for Nhlapo’s murder.
Since the incident occurred, Jabulile’s friends have expressed their shock and anguish. Some have sent messages on Facebook, saying she would be missed.
