Municipal workers made a grisly discovery on Friday morning when they found the body of a newborn baby.
The baby girl, whose placenta was still attached to her body, was found dumped next to a dustbin on Margaret Avenue in the Kempton CBD, on the East Rand, Kempton Express reported.
According to Kempton police spokesperson Captain Jethro Mtshali, the municipal workers made the discovery just before 11am.
“The body was wrapped in newspapers,” said Mtshali.
Police are investigating a case of concealment of birth and appeal to the community not to dump newborn babies and leave them out to die.
“Rather give it up for adoption. There are facilities such as hospitals and children’s centres that can take in unwanted babies and care for them,” Mtshali concluded.
