At an inauguration on Friday morning, Cllr Ntuthuko Mahlaba was sworn in as the new mayor of Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, reports Newcastle Advertiser.

Speaker Jubu Khumalo introduced the new mayor, declaring him the “new sheriff in town.”
Newcastle has not had a mayor since mid-January after Makhosini Nkosi resigned to pursue a career in the legal profession.
Dudu Sibiya was the acting mayor of Newcastle.

- Dr Mahlaba was sworn in into the Newcastle Municipality as a councillor in October last year.
- He is also the chairperson of the ANC’s Regional Executive Committee in the Emalahleni Region.
- He is a registered General Practitioner and has a practice in Newcastle.
