Tree falls on pedestrian during Joburg storm

A storm earlier this month uprooted a tree which fell on an unsuspecting pedestrian.

A pedestrian has been treated for severe injuries after a large tree fell on him during an intense storm on Malibongwe Drive earlier this month, reports Randburg Sun.

According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, the 55-year-old man was walking in the storm along the busy main road during the afternoon. The heavy storm caused a tree to be uprooted before falling on and trapping the man.

“Shortly after 5pm, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the man still trapped underneath the tree. ER24’s Rescue Unit used various tools to free the man from underneath the tree. He was treated for multiple fractures and several other injuries,” Meiring said.

Meiring suggested that the storm passed through the area, resulting in the tree being uprooted and falling over.

“The man was stabilised on the scene and rushed to Helen Joseph Hospital for further medical care,” said Meiring.
