Burning tyres block roads leading to Mbombela

Many roads leading to the city of Mbombela have been blocked with debris and burning tyres on Monday morning, reports Mpumalanga News.

The R40 between Mbombela and White River was blocked with burning tyres at Rocky’s Drift, Msholozi, and near Metropolitan College entrances.

However, the road was later opened with traffic moving at a snail’s pace around 8am.

Protest action slowed down traffic to a crawl.

Col Mntsholi Bhembe said: “We also learnt this morning that several roads were closed in different areas including Kanyamazane, Kabokweni, and Khumbula. We are not sure of the cause, except that in Khumbula the people are demanding electricity,” he said.
