The centre also includes a mammogram and breast care centre, day hospital, sub-acute and rehabilitation wards, laboratories and pharmacy, improving ease of access to services related to the cancer journey.

“The Elekta Versa HD machine is the most modern machine in the country where 3D conformal radiation, Volumetric Modulated Arc Radiotherapy Treatment, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy and a number of other methods of therapy can take place.”

“In summary, it means more focused radiation with decreased long-term and short-term side effects,” said Naidoo.

Business development manager of the De Muelenaere Oncology Management Services (DMO) group, which manages the radiation oncology division, Shaun-Anthony McPhail said: “This means that we can provide quicker treatment times for patients due to newer and faster software; treat more accurately, and include more precise fields targeting the cancer cells which reduces the treatment side effects, improving the overall treatment experience for cancer patients.”

The facility will soon include a 4D CT scanner for treatment planning; image-guided radiation therapy and gated radiation therapy.

Naidoo also prides himself in the fact that they are an academic practice, staying on top of the oncology game through clinical trials.
