Lion mauling case in Limpopo takes a turn
The body is now believed to be that of a poacher, as it is reported that a hunting rifle was found close to the scene.

New information has come in that the man mauled to death by lions on a game reserve close to Hoedspruit is believed to be a poacher and not a farmworker.
The incident occurred on Friday, February 9. The half-eaten lifeless body of a man was recovered on Umbabata reserve. Initial reports suggested that the man was a farmworker.

However, Limpopo police spokesperson Maotshe Ngoepe says the farmworker who was believed to have been killed was subsequently found alive. As per the original report, the tractor he was driving did indeed break down, but he managed to walk to the compound safely.
The body is now believed to be that of a poacher, as it is reported that a hunting rifle was found close to the scene. Unconfirmed reports suggest that a panga was also found close by.
Ngoepe reports: “The process of identifying the deceased has already commenced and it might be made possible by the fact that his head is among the remains that were found at the scene.”
Police investigations are still continuing.
