Load shedding at short notice could start from today

Eskom has issued another warning for possible load shedding today. The power utility says the possibility remains high for the next few days and may be implemented if absolutely necessary.

“The power system remains tight and vulnerable and while Eskom is making every effort to return generating units online in order to limit load shedding, it could be implemented at short notice should there be a significant shift in plant performance. This could include a significant loss in generating plant due to unplanned technical breakdowns.

“We continue to encourage residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electrical appliances to assist in reducing demand.”

The power utility advised customers to check their load shedding schedules on the Eskom website or their municipality’s website and to plan on the assumption that load shedding will take place.

Eskom will continue to provide regular updates about the state of the power system through various media platforms.

This comes after another Eskom warning on Tuesday where the power utility warned of a high risk of load shedding between 4pm and 11pm.

The reason for the warning was a result of a shortage of capacity due to the loss of generating units at power stations.
