‘Best switch off the country’ says gatvol SA as indefinite stage 6 load shedding implemented (again)

Struggling power utility Eskom's announcement about indefinite stage 6 load shedding being implemented again has rubbed SA up the wrong way.

Just when Mzansi thought they’ll have an extra hour or two to catch up on their laundry and Netflix, Eskom threw a spanner in the works announcing indefinite stage 6 load shedding – yet again.

On Friday the struggling power utility gave South Africans hope when it announced that stage 5 and stage 4 load shedding would be implemented during the weekend.

Stage 4 load shedding was to be implemented on Sunday morning, but the country’s Sunday lunch plans were ruined on Saturday afternoon when Eskom announced that stage 6 load shedding is actually here to stay until further notice.

“Following the tripping of unit 2 at Koeberg Power Station this morning, Stage 6 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 this afternoon until further notice. Eskom will publish as soon as any significant change occurs,” the struggling state-owned entity Tweeted.

Meanwhile City Power has warned that stage 6 load shedding is causing more shocks and challenges for the utility, its systems, infrastructure, and customers and it is losing millions of rands due to Eskom’s deliberate power cuts.

The regional utility said customers have been experiencing many outages across the city of Johannesburg after load shedding restorations and prolonged outages due to the higher stages of blackouts.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said they lose about R3.6m daily due to load shedding, and the current higher stages of load shedding do not help.

City Power CEO Tshifularo Mashava said that load shedding is an undesired nuisance for their operations, and the higher stages including stage 6 where we find ourselves currently.
