EskomSePush app has had to upgrade its servers to deal with the demand

The popular load-shedding app EskomSePush has seen massive uptake since load shedding kicked into high gear this year, with Stage 4 now a daily reality for consumers.

As a result, the previously little-known app EskomSePush is now installed on most people’s smartphones, as it niftily alerts users to when they’re being affected in their areas.

It is reportedly also South Africa’s most popular app, even surpassing popular games such as Fortnite.

The unexpected demand, however, caused the service to experience downtime in recent days, with servers unable to cope with the demand of “the whole of South Africa opening the app”, as the company has described it.

However, they have reported that their push servers are now able to deal with the demand and have encouraged people to thank their developer, Dan Wells, for solving the problem.

Many on Twitter have done exactly that, somewhat to Wells’ pleasant surprise.
