Load Shedding

Eskom suspends load shedding for Sunday afternoon

Eskom has announced that it will suspend load shedding for Sunday afternoon.

According to the embattled power utility, the suspension of stage 2 rolling blackouts during the evening peak period was prompted by improved generation capacity.

“Due to much-improved generation capacity and the lower weekend demand, as well as a full recovery in emergency generation reserves, Stage 2 load shedding has been suspended for this afternoon,” Eskom said in a statement.

While Eskom was able to suspend load shedding at this point, it warned that the generation system was still vulnerable to breakdowns and power cuts could be required.

“We, therefore, urge all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly, especially during these uncertain times on the power system. Eskom will promptly communicate should a need arise.

“We currently have 4 116MW on planned maintenance, while another 12 437MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.”
