Eskom has announced the return of its unpopular rolling blackouts, with stage 2 rotational load shedding to take place from 1pm today.
According to the struggling power utility, this is “as a result of a shortage of capacity”. Eskom also says they need to “replenish and preserve emergency water and diesel resources to limit load shedding possibility or magnitude thereof in the following week”, says a statement from the parastatal.
In other words, Eskom says they will be load shedding now to avoid load shedding later.
The embattled utility appeals to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly and to switch off geysers as well as “all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand”.
