Eskom gives SA more Stage 4 for Human Rights Day

Eskom announced on Wednesday night that there would be another day of Stage 4 load shedding for most of Thursday, despite it being a public holiday.

Human Rights Day would have to make do without 4,000MW of power, with Stage 2 set to kick in from 9am, lasting until 11pm.

Stage 2 would be in effect when Stage 4 was not.

Load shedding has never gone beyond Stage 4 before.

Andrew Etzinger, senior manager at Eskom, said yesterday that he expects the rolling blackouts will actually be scaled back in coming days, but there’s little sign of that as yet.
