Danny Jordaan will address an allegation of rape by former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson today.
His lawyer, Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi, told 702 her client would send a press release to the media regarding this.
Mohlala-Mulaudzi said: “We have been listening to the debate that has been ensuing throughout the day on 702. My client has now decided that he will be making a public statement in a press release that will be released tomorrow [Wednesday], whereby he will be specifically denying all the allegations that have been made against him by Ms Jennifer Ferguson.”
‘From that position, I just want to extend an invitation to any other woman in South Africa because we know that there are other women out there, to please come forward.’
Ferguson came forward with her experience of rape, allegedly by Jordaan, last moth. She wrote on her blog that Jordaan had nonconsensual sex with her in a hotel room 23 years ago. While Jordaan did not respond at the time, two more women have come forward with similar experiences.
“I want to applaud the women that have come forth courageously with something that is very difficult to disclose. There are now three women that provide a very powerful witness to Mr Jordaan’s sexual behavior, sexual abuse and rape.
“From that position, I just want to extend an invitation to any other woman in South Africa because we know that there are other women out there, to please come forward.
“The more women come forward, the more powerful we become, and we also become a support network and group to come forward with truth. Sometimes many years later, but it’s important to address what is a really toxic boil in our landscape, where men in position of leadership abuse their power in this way,” said Ferguson in response to Jordaan’s lawyer.
Ferguson reiterated her call for Jordaan to join a process of mediation to restore the dignity of the people involved in the rape scandal. She said a third woman had approached her to share her story of an alleged rape by Jordaan.
Ferguson said Jordaan’s lawyer had contacted the father of her child to find out if he was willing to speak off the record regarding her past and to ascertain if there was anything in her conduct and behaviour that was untoward.
She believes this is an effort by Jordaan to embark on a smear campaign and discredit her rape allegations.
