LISTEN: Anthony Still says Mashaba firing him was a revenge act

It appears the mayor of Joburg has begun 'interfering' in the governance of state-owned entities.

In a radio interview with 702, Anthony Still said he was removed from his position by Herman Mashaba because he would not fire the CEO of City Power.

He explained there were processes to follow in firing Xulu and he believed the board had followed the right procedures. He added it could not be proved Xulu was putting his colleagues in danger.

In a statement, Mashaba said his difference of opinion with Still was discussed extensively.

“I am firmly of the view that I require a team of MMCs who share my commitment to tackling matters of alleged fraud and corruption in the City. This is what the residents of our City have demanded, and I will remain unapologetic in my commitment to deliver on it.

“As of today, and following an extensive process of consideration I am pleased to announce that Cllr Nico De Jager will assume the position of MMC for environmental and infrastructure services.”
