Lindiwe Sisulu slams Maimane for ‘taking credit’ for govt changes

Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has accused DA leader Mmusi Maimane of taking credit for the recent changes in government that have seen Jacob Zuma step down from office and his former deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa, elected the country’s head of state in parliament last week.

This after Maimane this morning called on Ramaphosa to fire Cabinet ministers implicated in state capture and implored him to “fix the broken country” he inherits from Zuma.

“Honourable speaker, I absolutely find that it is dishonourable for honourable Maimane to take credit for the change of government that was a structural adjustment within the ANC. And was driven by the ANC and has nothing to do with the opposition,” Sisulu said, during the debate on the president’s state of the nation address (Sona) delivered on Friday night.

“He [Maimane] continues for exaggerated effect to talk of a broken state. South Africa is not a broken state, we have our problems but it is not a broken state,” She added.

Sisulu, despite heckles from EFF and DA MPs, accused Maimane of casting aspersions on members of Cabinet and overlooking “the quagmire” the DA faces in the City of Cape Town relating to the water crisis and political infighting.

She also thanked Zuma for his service in government. The embattled former president resigned after much pressure from the new ANC leadership last Wednesday.
