Lesufi asks for prayers after Grade 2 pupil brings gun to school to shoot another boy

The MEC disclosed the minor's name in a tweet.


Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi shocked Twitter on Thursday when he uploaded a screenshot of an email he received about a Grade 2 pupil who was armed and (no doubt) very dangerous.

The email said that the boy (presumably about eight years old) brought the loaded firearm to school to shoot another boy after they had had a fight.

Fortunately it seems the youngster never got a chance to pull the trigger and the police intervened. At the police station, the boy’s father reportedly “distanced himself from the weapon”, which had been confiscated.

Lesufi’s Twitter screenshot named the child, but we have blurred out the name in keeping with the Children’s Act, which does not look kindly on the naming of minors involved in or affected by crime.

He said people needed to pray for him. He showed disbelief that such a young person could have a gun.
