Land parcels coming up in the West Rand

Q&A with the West Rand District Municipality mayor reveals a promise for settlement in the municipal area.

1. Dear Mr Maneli, I have served traffic summonses for West Rand City under your contractor, Copper Moon Trading. I’ve not been paid since September 2016 to date. How can I be assisted? – Joseph Ratladi, Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

It is confirmed that Rand West City Local Municipality has an active three-year contract with Messrs Copper Moon Trading on the management and serving of traffic management summonses.

It is further confirmed, after discussion with representative of Copper Moon Trading, Mr Kgosi, that Mr Joseph Ratladi is contracted to Copper Moon Trading to serve summonses on behalf of the latter.

In attempting to address Mr Ratladi’s problem, the West Rand District Municipality facilitated a discussion between Rand West City Local Municipality and Copper Moon Trading and it was agreed that there are no outstanding in voices due to Copper Moon Trading by Rand West City.

Copper Moon Trading also confirmed that there are payments outstanding to Mr Joseph Ratladi as some services were not properly executed by the latter.

However, there is consensus that both Mr Ratladi and Mr Kgosi will be meeting before end of business on May 23, 2017, to agree on the payment.

2. Houses, houses, houses! I feel like we have been singing this song since the dawn of democracy. Please let us know when all informal settlements will be eradicated and people provided with decent, adequate housing. – Jo

In his State of the District address, the executive mayor of the West Rand District Municipality emphasised the problem of housing in Gauteng, which is also perpetuated by a constant influx of people from all over the country.

The West Rand District Municipality – with its three constituent local municipalities – will identify portions of land in each municipal area for the purposes of human settlement.

These portions of land will be identified in such a way that they also undermine the spatial development patterns of the past that seeks to distance disadvantaged communities from the economic activities.

The West Rand District Municipality and the three constituent local municipalities also committed to working with the Gauteng provincial government to ensure adequate provision of houses in the West Rand.

A comprehensive document to deal with the existing and mushrooming informal settlement in the jurisdiction of the West Rand District Municipality has been developed and the document can be accessed from the human settlement section of the municipality.

3. The streets are filthy Mr Mayor. Do we even have a cleaning service collecting waste. – Trish.

The executive mayor of the West Rand District Municipality expressed concern with the state of cleanliness throughout the West Rand and the matter is also finding expression in the inter-government relations engagements which all executive mayors and their municipal managers are expected to attend.

The West Rand District Municipality will continue to play its role of ensuring that municipalities within its area of jurisdiction adhere to their legislative mandates without fail.
